4 Skin Habits I Never Skip!

I love skincare.

LOVE.

I enjoy learning about it, asking questions and I’ve been blessed to cross paths with so many wonderful skincare professionals, so I’ve been able to discover more!

More than all of that, I take my own skincare very seriously. My mom is absolutely stunning in her older years, and this gives me hope! But, to help my skin operate at its optimal level, at any stage in life, is my constant goal. To aid with this, there are a few skincare habits that are always a part of my daily or weekly routine - as I’ve found them to be absolutely vital in helping my skin function at its best capacity!

1.) Applying SPF

Whatever the weather, inside or outside, my sunscreen is ON. If it’s daytime (I don’t care if I see the sun or not), I’m most definitely wearing sunscreen - and if I’m flying or going outside (even more, on a beach day!), I’m reapplying every few hours. Wearing SPF every day, no matter your skin type, tone, age or weather, not only protects you against harmful rays, sun spots and decreases your risk of certain forms of skin cancer, but it is also the #1 way to help prevent premature aging.

I’m a huge fan of this daily sunscreen (but, it’s currently sold out)! So, this is another one of my absolute favorites, too.

2.) taking makeup off at night

The truth is, nowadays, I rarely wear makeup. I have to wear it daily when I’m on set, so whenever I’m not, I love to give it a break (so essential for my skin!).  On the days that I do wear makeup, I never, ever sleep with it on. Even if I doze off early, I always make sure to get up, wash my face and prepare it for the night.

Since our skin does it’s best work when we sleep (intense repair, regeneration + maximum absorption), it’s vital to help it perform optimally with our nighttime products instead of bouts of oil, dirt and makeup.

This is an important one not to skip!

3.) Weekly exfoliation

I have naturally oily, acne-prone skin, so this one has particularly been a life-saver for me (although exfoliating 1-2x a week is normally spot-on for almost any skin type).  If exfoliation is new for you, take it slowly. 1x a week is great to start.

I like to alternate between chemical and physical exfoliation - it all depends on the needs of my skin (more on this later), but this is something I always do weekly.  With constant dirt, daily pollution and skin cell buildup, exfoliation helps to:

  • encourage cell turnover

  • even skin tone

  • keep pores clear!

One of my favorite exfoliation masks to use is the Triple Berry Smoothing Peel.

4.) daily Hyaluronic Acid

A little on hyaluronic acid: one powerful humectant. HA is a natural substance we curate in our skin, but with age, it commonly decreases in production. Its purpose?

To help retain moisture in our barrier, allowing plump, supple skin (and lubricated tissues/joints when ingested in tablet form) to glow forth.

I’ve been through my fair share of hyaluronic acids and this is one that I can’t currently live without. It ain’t cheap, but it’s worth every penny. I don’t know how to describe it other than, it feels like a soothing cloud in serum form (so, although it’s called an ‘acid’, think of it as a drink of soothing water for the skin). I never miss a day of application. I love it that much.
