There are so many good things coming out this month and I’m happy that life has slowed down a bit for me to be able to catch up on them! Time to grab my snacks and Netflix + Chill. :)

Raising Dion

What is it about?

Based on the comic, the story centers around a young boy, Dion, who is struggling to control his newfound magical, superhero-like abilities. His mother, Nicole, is shouldering the struggles of parenting after the death of her husband, Mark. In addition to this, Nicole now has to keep her son, and his powers, safe - with the help of those she can trust.

Who is in it?

Michael B. Jordan, Ja’Siah Young, Alisha Wainwright, Jason Ritter and our girl, Jazmyn Simon (Hill)!

(You may know our sister, Jazmyn, from HBO’s Ballers, Acrimony + Psych: The Movie). Go Jazzy!

Living Undocumented - docuseries

What is it about/Who is in it?

Eight undocumented immigrant families share their stories as they face potential deportation. In this deeply intimate docuseries, their journeys highlight and humanize the complex US immigration system and illustrate the struggles that many must endure in their quest to pursue the American dream. Executive Produced by Selena Gomez.

(A necessary and important docuseries that I’m really looking forward to watching).

The Kominsky Method - Season 2

What is it about?

Two friends tackle life’s inevitable curveballs as they navigate their later years in Los Angeles, a city that, above all else, values youth.

(Hubby and I binged the entire first season in a weekend. We had to take breaks in between because we didn’t want it to end. Brilliant show, brilliantly acted).

Who’s in it?

Michael Douglas, Alan Arkin, Nancy Travis, and in this season, Jane Seymour!

When is it released?

October 25.

Dolemite Is My Name

What is it about?

The story of Rudy Ray Moore, American comedian, musician, singer, film actor, and film producer who rose to fame when his comedic and outlandish kung-fu fighting alter ego, Dolemite, became a 1970s Blaxploitation phenomenon.

Who’s in it?

Err’body. And I do mean, err’body: Eddie Murphy, Wesley Snipes, Mike Epps, Keegan Michael-Key, Craig Robinson, Tituss Burgess and another one of our sisters, Da’Vine Joy Randolph (and more!). This is gonna be good.

(Fun fact: Da’Vine + Trai were in the same class together at Yale, so, they go wayyy back). Go Day!

Tell Me Who I Am - documentary

What is it about?

This documentary follows Alex Lewis, who, at 18 years old, loses his memory after a horrible accident. The only person he remembers is his twin brother, Marcus, who paints a false picturesque past of their family and lives. Decades later, Marcus must now address with Alex, the truth about their past and a traumatic family secret that can no longer be hidden.
