My Holy Grail Products For Processed, Brittle Hair

After I went bleached blonde in a spur-of-the-moment decision, I realized quickly how much harsher it was on my hair than expected. I figured that my hair would be stripped and dry with a few extra split ends, but never did I imagine that it was going to break the way it did.

During this time, I scrambled through a slew of moisturizing and fortifying products to see what would ease my brittle, yet delicate strands. After a trial and error of what seemed like almost every product on the beauty store shelves, I landed on these potent puppies below, which became my saving graces as I navigated the unchartered platinum life.

More than that, as I continue to color my hair with blonds, medium browns or even deep browns, I still use these to calm any frazzled tresses.

Head + Shoulders Coconut Oil Co-Wash

But, isn’t Head + Shoulders strictly a dandruff shampoo?

Not this one. I’ve tried quite a few co-washes and Head + Shoulders Coconut Oil Co-Wash continues to outshine the ones I’ve tried: truly hydrating, never leaves my hair stripped after rinsing and I love the additional component of coconut oil. Great for those with thicker and/or curly hair.

Mizani Overnight Repair

This baby right here? A God-send. Whenever I need that extra moisture punch for dry hair spells, Mizani Overnight Repair is stable and durable enough to make it through the night with me.  Designed to restore tired tresses overnight – especially post-processing.

Olaplex #6

We’ve all heard of the magic of Olaplex #3, #4 and #5 (these were key in my bleached blonde journey because of their epic bonding properties and clear/white coloring), but it was during platinum-time that I also stumbled upon the glory of Olaplex #6.  This became a regular leave-in conditioner and daily styling product for me because of its magical smoothing and repairing results.  Without question, it was one of my ultimate saving graces, both then and now (I carry the full collection because I’m no fool. Olaplex is the truth).

 Alterna Caviar CC Cream 10-in-1

I can hear the gospel choir singing its praises as. we. speak. Alterna’s Caviar CC Cream 10-in-1 leave-in treatment is so unbelievably effective for hydration; thick enough to cover split ends and moisturizing enough to ensure that my breakage would be at a minimum. Glory!

Amika Soulfood Nourishing Mask

Listen. They don’t call it 'soul food’ for nothing. Slather this on once a week, put on a thin shower cap and stand in a steamy shower for about 20 mins. Amika’s Soulfood Nourishing Mask will unleashed some of the softest, non-fried hair you’ve ever seen!

 Deva Curl’s Light Defining Gel

Good ol’ Deva Curl. (This entire line is a staple for those with curly hair).  Although my curls aren’t in full spiral mode (due to the straight styling + coloring), Deva Curl’s Light Defining Gel is perfect for my thicker hair - touching up stubborn spots after applying my leave-in conditioners/creams during the day. This ultra-light gel provides an added hold – sans dryness and crunch. My semi-waves are truly thankful.

And last, but not least…..the GOAT; Coconut Oil

I love using Coconut Oil for many things; cooking, hydrating hair and a moisturizer for my skin. Coconut Oil is high in healthy saturated fat, so it’s deep conditioning and strengthening properties for the hair are unbeatable. It nourishes and protects hair while reducing frizz. Not to mention, it’s a natural dandruff repellent. It really is an all-around power product.

For optimal results, administer a leave-in in damp hair with warmed coconut oil for 30-45 mins before washing out or for daily use, add to your scalp, hair or split ends as needed.
